Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is occurred when the person’s throat closes and cannot acquire air into their lungs (apnea) during sleep. The muscles that normally hold the throat open during Justify Fullwakefulness have its time to relax during sleep and so let the airway to become narrow.

Apnea is a termination of breathing which must last 10 seconds or more. Obstructive sleep apnea incident can go on as long as two minutes. The reduction in the level of oxygen in the blood is one of the factors of obstructive sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea keep occurs as long as sleep continues. Waking up is the best solution to end obstructive sleep apnea besides saving the sufferers life. The muscles of the tongue and throat muscles will activate back effectively to enlarge the airway after awakening. The lungs with full of oxygen will make the sufferers able to breathe once again. Obstructive sleep apnea may be recurring hundreds of times a night even the sufferer can notice its happening.

What is caused Obstructive Sleep Apnea to happen?

When the body is in the relaxing mode (sleep and nap), the muscles have their time relax too much and caused the airway partially closed. The throat and the soft tissue (uvula and soft pallet) play important role here by obstructing the airway. In details, this will suck the throat completely closed at the airway and air cannot pass at all. Obstructive Sleep Apnea will happen when the person is trying to inhale during sleep.

There two types of obstructive sleep apnea. The first one is mild obstructive sleep apnea. It is such as the case people who experience it during an upper respiratory infection. It may not be important. The other one is chronic and severe obstructive sleep apnea which requires further treatment to prevent sleep lack and other problems. Of course, some of us think and give less attention to this sleep apnea. We must prevent before it will come too seriously and cost our life. The most sober complication is a severe form of congestive heart failure called cor pulmonale. So as advice if you don’t want to lose your life quickly, please take action at earlier time.

Another factor of Obstructive Sleep Apnea is obesity. The people who in this category have high risk because they have low muscle tone and soft tissue around the airway which will narrow down the airway only give small space when in normal inhale. Can we imagine what will happen when they sleep?

Additional information for us to keep in mind, the old people is more possible to have Obstructive Sleep Apnea than young people. Men also not exempted. Men are more usual sleep apnea sufferers than women and children.
